1 BHK interior design

A 1 BHK has one bedroom, one living area and a kitchen, so every square foot has to earn its place. We plan compact flats around storage first, then furniture, so the home feels open instead of crowded.Packages for a 1 BHK start from ₹2.4 lakh for the Essential tier, with Signature and Luxe tiers above it. The final figure follows a site visit and an itemised estimate.

01Fit

Is it right for your home?

Works best when

  • First homes, rental-to-own flats and homes for a single person or a couple
  • Owners who want a ready-to-live home without managing several contractors
  • New possession flats where wiring and ceiling points can still be planned
  • Families that need a bedroom, a living area and a working kitchen, nothing more
  • Buyers who want a clear budget before work begins

Worth considering

  • Compact rooms reward fewer, better-chosen pieces over many small ones.
  • Storage must be planned with the layout, since there is little floor space for loose cupboards.
  • A wardrobe door that swings into the bed space wastes room. Sliding doors may suit better.
  • A kitchen with a small footprint needs tall units and lofts to make up for limited counter length.
  • Society rules on work hours and lift use affect how fast the work can go.

02Design ideas

Ideas to start from

  • Wardrobe on the full bedroom wall

A floor-to-ceiling wardrobe with a loft takes more clothes than two loose cupboards and keeps the room visually tidy.

  • Bed with storage underneath

A hydraulic or drawer bed turns the unused space under the mattress into a place for bedding and off-season clothes.

  • TV unit that doubles as storage

A wall unit with closed cabinets below and an open shelf above holds the TV, wires and everyday items in one place.

  • Foyer shoe cabinet with a seat

A slim cabinet at the entrance keeps shoes out of sight and gives a place to sit while putting them on.

  • Straight or L-shaped kitchen with a loft

Lofts and tall units carry the storage upward, which saves counter space in a small kitchen.

  • Foldable or wall-mounted dining

A drop-leaf table or a wall-mounted counter gives you a meal space without taking the floor all day.

  • Light colours and one feature wall

Pale walls make a small room feel larger, and a single panelled or textured wall adds character without clutter.

  • Layered lighting

Warm ceiling lights, a task light over the counter and a bedside lamp avoid a flat, single-bulb look.

03Materials

Materials and finishes

Board
Moisture-resistant plywood in the kitchen and wherever a wall is damp, and a good commercial board for dry bedroom storage.
Shutters
Laminate is practical and easy to wipe. Lighter shades and slim handles help a small room look larger.
Hardware
Soft-close hinges and drawer channels on the pieces you use daily, since a compact home is used hard.
Wall finishes
Paint in light tones with one textured or panelled wall. Wallpaper works well behind the bed.
Lighting
Warm white LED lights on separate switches, so the living area can be bright or soft as needed.

04Planning

Sizing and planning notes

Typical area
A 1 BHK is commonly around 450 square feet of carpet area, though flats vary. We measure your own plan rather than assume.
Wardrobe depth
A standard wardrobe is about 600 mm deep. In a narrow bedroom, a 450 to 500 mm depth with a sliding shutter can save floor space.
Walking space
Keep roughly 600 to 750 mm clear beside a bed and about 900 mm in the main walkway. Anything tighter feels cramped quickly.
Kitchen counter
Counter height is usually 850 to 900 mm, with wall cabinets about 450 to 600 mm above it. A loft above the wall cabinets takes rarely used items.
Power and lighting points
Mark TV, charging, fan, AC and kitchen appliance points on the plan before the walls and ceiling are finished.

06FAQ

1 BHK interior design: your questions

How much does 1 BHK interior design cost?

Our 1 BHK packages start from ₹2.4 lakh for the Essential tier. The final cost depends on the carpet area, materials and scope, and you receive an itemised estimate after the site visit.

What does the 1 BHK Essential package include?

Core woodwork for a ready-to-live home: a shoe cabinet, a TV unit, a hinged wardrobe with soft-close hinges, a queen bed with a headboard, side tables, and a modular kitchen with a chimney and hob. Civil work, electrical rewiring and appliances beyond the chimney and hob are quoted separately.

How can I make a 1 BHK look bigger?

Use light colours, keep furniture low and slim, and move storage into built-in units with full-height doors. Layered lighting and a clear walking path do more than extra decoration.

Is a sliding wardrobe better for a small bedroom?

Often, yes, because the doors do not need swing space. Hinged doors give full access to the wardrobe but need clearance, so the choice depends on the room.

Can I do only the kitchen and wardrobe first?

Yes. We can plan the whole flat and carry out the kitchen and bedroom storage first, then add the rest later.

Can you design a 1 BHK before I get possession?

Yes, from the builder's floor plan, and we confirm every measurement on site once you have access. Doing it early lets us plan electrical points and ceilings on bare walls.
